Farmer set to serve jail term commits suicide

A Carinthian farmer shot himself dead instead of starting a 200-day prison term, it has emerged.The Oberlienz resident left his farm on foot yesterday (Tues) shortly before a special Cobra police unit surrounded the estate to pick him up after he failed to turn up at Villach prison.He was due to spend 200 days behind bars for failing to pay up for minor business and traffic offences.Reports have it that he told neighbours “No one will get me!” before firing a shot into the air and dashing off into nearby woodlands.Police discovered the 55-year-old’s corpse after a two-hour search.
