Postman caught hoarding more than 1,000 letters

A postman has quit after more than 1,000 letters were found in his car.The 21-year-old told bosses he had “lost the overview” after the undelivered mail was discovered by police during a random traffic check in Linz, Upper Austria, yesterday (Weds).Officials said some of the letters the man had been hoarding in his vehicle had been posted more than a month ago.The man faces business malpractice charges.Meanwhile, state-owned postal firm Post AG is in turmoil after bosses announced plans to close around 300 offices throughout this year.Post AG currently has 1,807 branches across the country, but 756 of them are already run by so-called Post Partners – private businesses like petrol stations and grocery stores providing basic postal services.Post AG’s turnover declined by 15.2 million Euros in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2009.
