Austrians make Croatian holiday top three
Almost one in 10 foreigners spending their holidays in Croatia are Austrians, new figures show.Croatias Central Bureau of Statistics announced today (Thurs) that Austrians had comprised nine per cent of overnight stays by foreigners between January and July this year. Only Germans (19.8 per cent) and Slovenes (13.7 per cent) had a larger share, it said.The Croatian Times reports that 89.6 per cent of overnights in the Adriatic country in the first seven months of the year can be attributed to foreigners.Motorists club Arbö said earlier this year that around 18 per cent of Austrians planning to travel by car on holiday were expected to drive to Croatia this summer season. The body said that made the country the most popular destination, neck-and-neck with Italy.Meanwhile, online hotel comparison platform Trivago (www.trivago.co.uk/hotelprices) has revealed that hotels in Austrian capital Vienna increased their prices following a record number of overnights in the first half of the year.The platform said last week a double room in city cost 125 Euros a night on average this month, up from 113 Euros last month. The development means Vienna is currently the 11th most expensive destination when it comes to hotel room rates among Europes 50 most popular cities.Viennas hotels and pensions registered a record 1.125 million overnights in July. The figure up by 15.6 per cent year on year means there were 5.949 million overnights in the first seven months of this year, up by 13.4 per cent year on year.The 4.8 million overnights that were registered in the first half of 2010 a 12.9 per cent year on year improvement meant the capital had had the best first six months of the year in history.
