Three evacuation flights to Cairo today

There will be three Austrian flights to Cairo, Egypt today (Mon) in order to evacuate Austrians stranded there, according to the Foreign Ministry.Ministry spokesman Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal said that the three flights, dispatched in reaction to popular concern, would have room for a total of 419 people.He added that 300 some Austrians wanted to get out of Cairo, 100 to 150 of whom were already waiting at the airport there and the remainder were en route to it.Seven to eight ministry officials were at the airport to help Austrians, and the planes would have supplies of mineral water and food for Austrians at the airport, he added.A media report today quoted a relative of two Austrians stranded at the airport as saying they were “physically and mentally exhausted.” The relative added that there was “chaos, gun shots and a strong military presence” at the airport.Austrian Airlines (AUA) and Flyniki flights from Vienna to Cairo today carried only a handful of passengers, many of whom were Egyptians resident in Austria returning to Egypt to protect their property and other possessions.
