Slalom victory for Schild in Courchevel

Marlies Schild took first place for the second time, in the second race this season in the first round of the women’s slalom world cup. The race took place in Courchevel, France over the weekend and marks Schild’s 30th victory in world cup slalom racing.

“It is great,” said Schild who beat Tanja Putianien in the race by 1.87 seconds. Fellow Austrian Kathrin Zelttel took third place with Michi Kirchgasser in fourth.

Schild’s victory comes as no surprise after her triumphant start to the season in Aspen, USA. The 30-year-old also has fond memories of the resort in southern France where she achieved the best time last year.

The competition continues on Tuesday on the floodlit Hermann-Maier course in Flachau, Austria, where Kirchgasser predicts the atmosphere to be “brilliant”.
