Bochum snatch Korkmaz
Former Rapid Vienna star Ümit Korkmaz has joined VfL Bochum, it has emerged.The German team who were relegated from the top-flight Bundesliga last season announced yesterday evening (Weds) that the 25-year-old attacking midfielder will join them from Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of the current season. Bochum, who are managed by former Hertha BSC Berlin boss Friedhelm Funkel, are in sixth in the 18-team league.The deal includes a clause giving Bochum the chance to secure the player’s services for longer for an undisclosed sum.Korkmaz, who has suffered several injuries in the past years, left Rapid to sign with Frankfurt after the 2008 European Championship. He has performed in just two matches for Michael Skibbe’s team in the current season.The Vienna-born man with Turkish roots played eight times for Austria. He most recently featured the national team in their 0-1 defeat against Switzerland in Klagenfurt last August.Ex-Sturm Graz captain Jürgen Säumel meanwhile announced his decision to join German second-league side MSV Duisburg for the remaining rounds of this season. The midfielder, who performed in all of Austrias three Euro2008 group stage matches, most recently played for Torino in Italys Serie B.The transfer means Säumel will become a teammate of former Rapid Vienna striker Stefan Maierhofer. The national team star joined Duisburg from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer.Meanwhile, LASK Linz coach Georg Zellhofer revealed that he has set his sights on Sturm Graz ace Dominic Hassler.Sturm recently signed Magna Wiener Neustadt winger Patrick Wolf, while Austria Vienna defender Aleksandar Dragovic remains tight-lipped over whether he will join a foreign team in the current transfer period.Austrian Bundesliga champs title-holders Red Bull Salzburg signed defenders Douglas da Silva and Laszlo Bodnar.The Austrian Bundesliga continues on 12 February.
