Melzer may face Federer

Jürgen Melzer could be up against five-time US Open champion Roger Federer in the round of the final 16 of the upcoming Grand Slam event, drawings have shown.The Lower Austrian faces Dmitry Tursunov in the first round of the 22.7-million-US dollar tournament. If Melzer – who reached the 2010 French Open semi finals – beats the Russian and also gets through the subsequent round, he would clash with Federer. The Swiss star has won the US Open five times, most recently in 2008.Upper Austrian Sybille Bammer’s first round opponent has not been determined yet, while Vorarlberg-based Yvonne Meusburger has been informed she will play US American Jill Craybas.Stefan Koubek failed to qualify for the tournament’s main stage.
