RBS to become Under-21s team as boss focuses on RB Leipzig

Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz has revealed plans to make Red Bull Salzburg (RBS) the Under-21s team of his company’s football ambitions.The entrepreneur said today (Fri) he was convinced that RB Leipzig – who are currently competing in Germany’s fourth-highest league – will soon play a vital role in European football.”Red Bull Salzburg will be RB Leipzig’s ‘talent pool’ as soon as the club plays in the German Bundesliga,” he announced, adding that the team should nevertheless be strong enough to win the Austrian league.Red Bull Salzburg have won three league titles since the company acquired SV Austria Salzburg’s licence to compete in top-flight football in 2005, while RB Leipzig were only set up last year.The energy drinks maker also runs football academies in Ghana and Brazil as well as US team New York Red Bulls.Red Bull Salzburg bosses meanwhile agreed with Uruguayan Joaquin Boghossian on a four-year contract. The 23-year-old striker played for Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys last season.He is expected to fill the gap left by national team capital Marc Janko who was sold to Dutch champions Twente Enschede for around seven million Euros recently.The “Bulls” – coached by ex-Hamburger SV boss Huub Stevens – are set to play Wacker Innsbruck in the second round of the Bundesliga’s 2010/2011 season on Saturday, before meeting Cypriot champions AC Omonia in the first leg of the third round UEFA Champions League qualifier next Tuesday.
