Ex-First Lady dies of cancer

Former First Lady Edith Klestil has passed away.The ex-wife of late President Thomas Klestil died last week, Viennese newspapers reported today (Mon). The 78-year-old mother-of-three had suffered from cancer of the lymph glands since 2006.Edith Klestil moved out of the presidential villa in Vienna-Döbling in 1994 before filing for divorce four years later. Thomas Klestil – who became federal president in 1992 – married diplomat Margot Löffler only some months after the official break-up from his wife.Thomas Klestil passed away in 2004 a few days before he was due to pass on his presidential agendas to incumbent President Heinz Fischer.Klestil-Löffler has been the Austrian ambassador in Moscow, Russia, for two weeks. She previously represented the country in Prague in the Czech Republic.
