Vienna panda named by fans

A panda born in at Vienna’s Schönbrunn Zoo this summer has been named in an online vote.The animal, which tipped the scales at 4.5 kilograms earlier this month, is now called Fu Hu after 50.1 per cent of people participating in a poll picked the name which means “happy tiger”.Around 40.8 per cent wanted the panda, which came into the world in August, to be called Wei Xing (“joy of Vienna”), while only 9.1 per cent chose Ao Kang (healthy Austrian boy) in the vote which closed last night (Sun).Zoo director Dagmar Schratter recently talked about the zoo’s new top attraction : “Mum Yang Yang leaves her baby for a few hours every day. He seems to be happy and satisfied overall.”Schönbrunn Zoo is one of Austria’s major tourist attractions. It registered 2.18 million visitors last year.
