Drunk driver reports own car as stolen
A drunk driver reported his car stolen after he forgot to take it out of gear or put on the handbrake, and the vehicle made off across a field and crashed into a wood.
The out-of-control drive left the car a write off after the incident at Neuhofen an der Krems.
The 51-year-old man from Tyrol had parked at a gas station on the B139 to ask for a room and when he returned the car had disappeared. The man was convinced that the car had been stolen, and called the police.
A while later, a local resident called to tell the police that she had seen a red car drive across a field towards the forest, and soon thereafter the car was found. It was wedged in a group of trees and had been completely destroyed.
The 51-year-old man said that the car must have driven itself into the woods.
After a breath test revealed that the man was drunk, he had his driver’s license confiscated.
