Wrong-way driver stopped after 15 km
A man who drove along a motorway into the wrong direction for several kilometres (km) was found to be seriously drunk.
Police in Salzburg said the 36-year-old German was stopped near Siezenheim after going on the A1 western motorway into the incorrect direction for around 15 km yesterday morning (Sun). Officers confiscated his licence after he was breathalysed. No one was injured.
An elderly cyclist suffered serious injuries to her head later on the same day. The 68-year-old lost control of her electric bicycle (e-bike) for unclear reasons in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg, and fell over. The pensioner was hospitalised.
A seven-year-old boy was hit by a car when he ran onto a road in Lower Austria yesterday. The kid appeared in front of a 31-year-old driver when he leapt onto the lane after playing between parked cars in Martinsdorf. The woman failed to stop in time. The boy was airlifted to Vienna’s SMZ Ost Clinic with head injuries.
