Drunken driver drags along policeman

A policeman was injured when he was dragged along the road by a boozed-up motorist.

The officer tried to remove the car key from the ignition after the owner of the vehicle aroused his attention due to his erratic driving style and the unusually low positioning of his seat in Vienna’s Brigittenau district yesterday evening (Tues).

Instead of getting out of the car as ordered by the slightly injured police officer and his colleague, the man stepped on the gas. The officer managed to stop him after a few metres.

A breathalyser test revealed that the 56-year-old man was nearly four times over the legal drink-drive limit. He was not arrested but faces charges for driving under the influence of alcohol and injuring an official.
