Deaf cyclist killed by train

A deaf woman died after she was hit by a train yesterday (Tues).The 57-year-old attempted to cross a railway track with her bicycle when a regional train approached, police in Bad Ischl, Upper Austria, said today.Officials said the train driver carried out an emergency braking attempt when he spotted the woman. However, this failed to stop the locomotive from hitting her. She was already dead when a doctor reached the scene.Police said the woman – who lived locally – did not use a public level crossing but attempted to cross the rail connection in an area unauthorised persons are not allowed to trespass.
