Fake Gaddafi shocks refugees
An Austrian artist has terrified asylum seekers by posing as Muammar al-Gaddafi.Bernhard D., an award-winning theatre actor, donned a fake sand-coloured uniform, a black wig and large sunglasses to resemble the Libyan dictator when he marched through the streets of Lampedusa. Tens of thousands of people from North Africa have arrived on the Italian island in the past months to escape the brutal regime of Gaddafi.Refugees reacted unapproachable and frightened while some residents of Lampedusa were amused by the artist’s disputed stunt, according to Italian newspapers. He was preliminarily detained and questioned by the police. The Vienna-based actor argued today (Thurs) his actions were part of ongoing research about the “tragic situation” of asylum seekers.
