Armed Egyptian man brings U-Bahn service to a standstill
A Vienna underground line came to a halt for two hours after an armed Egyptian man sat down on the rails yesterday (Thurs).Ahmed M. handed out leaflets at the U4 U-Bahn line Landstraße station which criticised authorities for not awarding him Austrian citizenship after having lived 10 years in the country. The 38-year-old then took out two knives and calmly sat down on the tracks at around 1.30pm.Public transport service operator Wiener Linien immediately decided to halt service on the busy line. More than 150 passengers were stuck in a tunnel as a result had to leave the train by foot.The man was put in custody after he was struck down with a 50,000-volt taser stun gun by a member of special police unit WEGA.
