Snow safety masts damaged

Police in Upper Austria are investigating after dozens of roadside masts were destroyed at the weekend.Officials in Meggenhofen near Grieskirchen said today (Tues) the masts – set up along the road as snow is expected to fall shortly – were ripped out of the ground or cracked into pieces. The amount of damages has not yet been disclosed. Police did not rule out that the wooden poles were damaged as part of a Halloween prank. The masts, which are erected along main roads across the country ahead of the cold season, are an important traffic safety measure. They mark the lanes if freshly fallen snow disguises the scene before snow ploughs get a chance to remove the white masses.
