Belgian €300,000 hotel room dodger nabbed

A Belgian who stayed in some of the best Austrian hotels without paying has been caught in Italy.Police in the Austrian province of Tyrol announced today (Weds) the man, 49, was arrested while having dinner at a posh restaurant in San Remo yesterday.Austrian officials informed authorities in neighbouring countries after the man amassed unpaid hotel bills of almost 300,000 Euros, some of them dating back to autumn last year. He booked himself into five star resorts in tourism hotspots like Ischgl, Innsbruck and Vienna before fleeing to Italy.Italian police said they would extradite the fraudster to Austria.The news comes one day after reports that a parcel delivery man accused paramedics of stealing from him after losing more than 1,000 Euros of customers’ money in the casino.Police in Styria announced the 21-year-old man deliberately steered his car against a lamppost. He claimed two paramedics took money out of his car while their colleagues looked after him.He eventually admitted his wrongdoings after being caught out giving contradictory statements. The offender, who faces fraud and libel charges, was dismissed on the spot.
