Narrow escape as crane lands on gondola

Twelve holidaymakers had a lucky escape as a crane crashed on a gondola suspension yesterday (Thurs).Officials in the Tyrolean tourism hotspot Mayrhofen said today it was still a matter for investigation why the building crane used at a nearby construction site landed on the lift framework.But they added it could not be ruled out that strong wind gusts felled the heavy device as squalls made the rescue of the trapped tourists a difficult task.Three people exited the cabin with a ladder, while the other nine passengers were rescued by a helicopter using a rope. Authorities said no one was injured.
