Doctor providing addicts with cocaine walks free

A drug-addicted doctor who provided drug addicts in therapy with cocaine walked free from a Vienna court yesterday (Weds).Judge Patrick Aulebauer heard how suspended doc Peter A. supplied his patients with drugs before he was banned for life from the Doctors Chamber.Asked by the judge why he harmed his patients’ medical progress – who are on a substitution drug programme to get off the addiction – the Döbling based 57-year-old said: “I know what I did cannot be justified from a medical point of view. But it certainly was a humane act.”The defendant’s lawyer Philipp Winkler stressed that his client never took any money from the addicts.”I tried to ensure they didn’t become criminals by trying to get drugs elsewhere,” he claimed. The former doctor – who is addicted to cocaine himself – was acquitted from smuggling charges since he ordered some of the cocaine at a dealer and was ordered to undergo therapy.
