Salzburgs hills to come alive with sound of music

“The Sound of Music” musical will have its Austrian premiere at the Salzburger Landestheater, Salzburg, on 23 October 2011.The city made famous for its rich film and musical production will play host to the legendary musical with Wietske van Tongeren performing as Maria and Uwe Kröger playing Baron von Trapp.In the words of Carl Maldeghem, artistic director of the Salzburger Landestheater, “Throughout the world this is one of the most successful and most frequently played musicals of all time”.A Salzburg tourism official said that three out of four American tourists’ gave the film as the main reason behind their visit to Austria.Starting on 4 November 2011 and ending on 3 November 2012, the Salzburg Museum will feature a special exhibition on the von Trapp family with original objects owned by the family including photos, documents and manuscripts which will all be on show.By Matthew Riding
