Zawinul’s band to perform in Burgenland

The band of late jazz legend Joe Zawinul will perform in southern Burgenland as part of a local summer festival.Organisers of the Güssinger Kultursommer said today (Fri) that Syndicate will hit the stage at the town’s castle on 27 August.Vienna-born Zawinul, who died in September 2007, is regarded as a trailblazer of the contemporary century jazz / world music scene. The schoolmate of late Austrian President Thomas Klestil had a world hit with “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”. Vienna officials renamed a park in Landstraße district after Zawinul last year.Other highlights of the many events taking place in Güssing and other towns in the district will be the performance by comedian Joesi Prokopetz, Franz von Kobell’s play “Der Brandner Kasper” and a concert by violinist Toni Stricker.Visit www.kultursommer.net for a full schedule of events and to book tickets.
