Third Car Sharing Company Opens in Vienna

Following in the footsteps of Car2Go and Carsharing.at a new car sharing operator has opened in Vienna.

Flinkster, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, has opened its Vienna headquarters at Vienna’s Westbahnhof Train Station.

Further locations in 18 other districts of Vienna are set to follow.

The basic price for rental is 1 Euro per hour and then in addition at least 18 cents per KM driven.

Cars can be reserved online or via telephone.

In Germany there are already 800 Flinkster locations in 140 cities.

In total there are around 215,000 Flinkster customers.

The Austrian Traffic Club (VCÖ) believes car sharing has great potential as every fourth household in Austria has more than one car.

In Vienna the number is the lowest – with only 9 per cent of Vienna households possessing more than one car per household.

At the other end of the scale 36 per cent of households in Carinthia have more than one car.

The VCÖ said: “Second cars are only driven on average around 8,500 KM per year. Car Sharing pays off for cars which travel less than 12,000 KM per year.

Overall Car2Go counts Vienna as ‘One of its most successful locations’.

But Carsharing.at is not yet represented in as many districts as planned.
