Paper industry incomes to rise

People employed by domestic paper industry companies will earn more from next month.Works council representatives announced today (Fri) company bosses of the sector agreed to pay 3.1 per cent more to staff from 1 May. Negotiators said the leadership of the firms also agreed to raise traineesÂ’ salaries by the same rate. The settlement will be valid for 12 months, they added.People living in Austria are currently challenged by soaring food prices. Research by the Labour Chamber (AK) recently identified two-digit increases of prices of some of the most common products of daily life from last January to this month. The inflation rose by 3.1 per cent from March 2010 to the same month of this year.News that paper industry employees will be paid more shortly comes a few weeks after union bosses and firm officials agreed that the 12,530 people working in the Austrian textiles sector earn 2.75 per cent more as of 1 April 2011.
