Erste-backed mall breaks bright world record

A Romanian shopping centre into which Austrian Sparkassen Immobilien poured 200 million Euros has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest indoor Christmas light display.Guinness World Records officials acknowledged the bid as a new world best after visiting the installation which features 449,658 lights at the Sun Plaza mall in Bucharest at the weekend, according to a report by the Romanian Times.Sparkassen Immobilien, the real estate division of Austria’s Erste Bank, invested around 200 million Euros in the shopping centre which opened last February. Erste Bank is one of the biggest investors in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).The shopping centre has an area of 210,000 square metres, of which 80,000 square metres are retail space. It registered 85,000 visitors on its first day. The mall features 150 shops including Austrian tool store BauMax. It is the biggest shopping centre in the country which joined the European Union (EU) six years ago.
