Penny products range rises
Discount supermarkt Penny has added 100 new products to its range.The no frills supermarket chain said today (Weds) around 1,500 different items were now on sale at its nearly 300 stores across Austria including branded articles like Wieselburger beer and Meinl coffee.Penny, previously named Penny Markt, is part of German Rewe Groups Austrian subsidiary Rewe International which also manages market leader Billa and cosmetics and healthcare products chain Bipa.Spar Austria, Rewe Internationals major rival, only recently signed Hollywood actor Pierce Brosnan as poster boy of a new own range of products called “Premium” including a special selection of pasta and spices.Spar Austrias turnover increased from 2.35 to 2.44 billion Euros year on year in the first six months of 2010.Rewe International had a turnover of 11.55 billion Euros in 2009, up by six per cent year on year.
