Cycle paths to be painted green

Vice Mayor Maria Vassilakou (Green Party) wants to paint cycle paths in Vienna with a length of 1,223 km green. A test route along the Ringstrasse will be painted next week.

Colourful cycle paths have been set up in cities like London and Munich. According to Maria Vassilakou, residents of Vienna will love it too.

The advantage is that car drivers and pedestrians will recognize cycle paths quicker. Mrs Vassilakou advocates a gentle dark green.

Dangerous spots will, however, keep the signal colour red. The first test route will be painted next week at Ringstrasse (near Eschenbachgasse).

“If the test phase goes well, I want to paint all cycle paths, which is around 1,223 km”, Mrs Vassilakou said. Currently, the costs are being evaluated.
