Price of electricity likely to rise in May

The price of Austrian electricity is likely to rise by 3.6 per cent year on year in May, according to the Austrian Energy Agency.

It reported today (Tues) that its electricity-price index (ÖSPI) showed that such an increase was likely next month. If it occurs, it will represent an increase of 0.4 per cent over this month.

The index is based on the wholesale price of electricity at the EEX electricity exchange in Leipzig, Germany. The agency said that the index (base year 2006 = 100) would stand at 99.96 points in May.
