Salzburg hotel prices jump
Hotels in the city of Salzburg have upped their prices by more than 25 Euros, it has been revealed.International hotel comparison website Trivago (www.trivago.co.uk/hotelprices) said today (Thurs) that a standard double room in the holiday hotspot currently costs 129 Euros a night, up from 102 Euros last month.Thousands of skiers spending their holidays in the province of Salzburg every year also take the opportunity to spend a few days in the city where celebrated composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born.Managers of the Christkindlmarkt in the ancient city centre of Salzburg are hoping for higher visitor figures than last year when over one million people visited the market after it came fourth in a leading travel news platforms ranking on the best places in the world to spend Christmas this year.CNNGo listed the market in fourth place. Only counterparts in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, the German city of Nuremberg and Pogost, a small village in Belarus, were rated better by the travelling platform of American news network CNN.The province of Salzburg registered almost 12.7 million overnight stays in the past winter season, up by one per cent year on year.Trivago also said today that hotels in Innsbruck, capital of the Alpine province of Tyrol, raised their room rates by seven per cent month on month to 120 Euros.Tyrol, one of the Austrian tourisms most important areas, spent 3.5 million Euros on marketing in Austria and abroad ahead of the current winter season.A recent poll showed 19 per cent of Tyrolean businessmen expected the provinces tourism branch to grow year on year this winter.Room prices at Austrian hotels are still low compared to other European destinations.Trivago identified hotels in the Swiss city of Geneva as most expensive costing 186 Euros a night, followed by British capital London (184 Euros) and Stockholm, Sweden, which has an average rate of 159 Euros.
