Age feud tarnishes Romanian’s Miss Austria triumph

Miss Austria competition organisers have pledged to do all they can to get winner Carmen Stamboli into this year’s Miss World competition regardless of an apparent breach of regulations.Stamboli, a brunette FlyNiki stewardess, was crowned Miss Austria 2011 at the Casino Baden in Lower Austria at the weekend. The event’s jury has been criticised for picking the Romanian-born beauty since she is 27 years old – which rules her out from participating in the upcoming Miss World contest which has an age limit of 26.Now Miss Austria Corporation head Emil Bauer promised to ring Miss World chiefs to allow Stamboli’s participation. He said today (Weds): “Carmen is beautiful. She has got great looks – and I could theoretically send every Miss Austria of the past years to the Miss World 2011 competition.”Bauer explained Stamboli was not obliged to take part, adding that the Vienna-based Miss Austria 2011 had good chances to launch a career as a professional model. The businessman revealed that Stamboli – who speaks several languages – will front upcoming marketing campaigns of market-leading mineral water producer Vöslauer, lemonade maker Schartner Bombe, car firm Chevrolet and fashion brand Vögele.Stamboli, who qualified for the recent Miss Austria contest by coming first in this year’s Miss Vienna vote, succeeded Valentina Schlager – a blonde from Viktring in Carinthia as Miss Austria.
