Doctor warns of high sepsis death rate

Up to one out of three deaths in Upper Austrian are down to a sepsis, a leading doctor has claimed.Walter Hasibeder of the Barmherzige Schwestern Clinic in Ried im Innkreis said today (Weds) the cause of between every fifth to every third fatality was the inflammatory syndrome.Hasibeder stressed that the medical condition was often diagnosed too late, adding that every hour the disease goes unnoticed increases the death risk by eight per cent.Around 170 experts from all over Austria will gather at a congress in Ried im Innkreis this Saturday and Sunday to discuss this and other issues.
