Driver caught stealing at petrol station

An elderly Frenchman has been put in custody after failing to pay at a petrol station in eastern Austria yesterday (Tues).The 85-year-old driver was stopped on the A4 eastern motorway in the province of Burgenland shortly before the Austrian-Hungarian border.CCTV footage revealed that he fuelled his car for around 40 Euros and took one can of beer and two packets of crisps before speeding off without paying in Rannersdorf near Schwechat, Lower Austria, earlier on the same day.Police decided to put the man into detention after he denied any wrongdoings. He was freed and allowed to continue his journey after admitting theft.The tourist was ordered to pay an undisclosed fine and the value of the the petrol and products which he stole from the station.Meanwhile, Tyrolean officials said a Belgian man who stayed in some of the best hotels across Austria without paying was caught in San Remo, Italy, while having dinner at an award-winning restaurant.The 49-year-old’s fraud has caused damages of almost 300,000 Euros to hotels and restaurants in Ischgl, Innsbruck and other Austrian holiday hotspots during the past one and a half years.Italian police said the suspect will be extradited to Austria.
