Whitsun traffic in Austria claims five

Traffic officials have said only five people were killed on Austrian roads over the Whitsun weekend.A Traffic Department spokesman said today (Weds) that this was the lowest number of Whitsun traffic fatalities along with figures in 1996 and 2008 since 1967.One car driver, two motorcyclist and two cyclists died in the Whitsun traffic.A record number of 21 people lost their lives on the roads in 2007 when beautiful weather tempted many to go at excessive speed.Police meanwhile announced 632 drivers face drink driving charges, up by 1.8 per cent year on year.The Committee for Traffic Safety (KfV) announced recently that 633 people had been killed on roads in the country last year, down by 6.8 per cent year on year. The number is the lowest since the start of standardised traffic accident records in 1961, according to the body.
