Injured Bammer takes a break

Austria’s number one female tennis player Sybille Bammer said today (Fri) she had decided to take a four-week break after a cold joined her Achilles heel problems.The 29-year-old announced that she would skip playing at tournaments at Ponte Vedra Beach and Charleston in the United States after crashing out at the ATP tournament in Miami.Speaking about his strained protégé’s problems, coach Jürgen Waber explained: “Sybille was on three continents in one week. She plans to play one or two clay court events to prepare for the French Open.”Bammer has won two WTA and nine IFT titles. One of her career highlights was reaching the quarter-finals of the 2008 US Open. The Upper Austrian, however, had a mediocre 2009 season due to several injuries.
