Indoor pool in Vienna open after renovation work

Vienna’s indoor swimming pool the Amalienbad is open again after it was closed for renovations over the summer.

The main improvement was an update and renovation of the technology involved in purifying and filtering the water at the swimming pool, but also heating and a conditioning systems were modernised.

There is also now are barrier free entry to the swimming pool and new lighting to incorporate the latest LED technology that was also installed. The bath was closed in June for the renovation works to start.

The renovation that cost 10.3 million will mean an energy-saving of around one point 1.1 million euros per year meaning that in nine years they will have paid for themselves.

The last major renovation of the swimming pool was in the 1980s.

But while the Amalienbad is open again there is no end in sight to the row over the renovation work at the Stadthallenbad where there is a suspicion that there were major deficiencies in what was carried out.

Expert reports are currently being prepared.

So far 16.6 million of the 17 million euro budget has been used on what is now believed to have been substandard work.
