A draw and two losses for Austria

By Rebecca Musgrave

Not a good night for Austrian football. After seven months of home wins, Salzburg suffered a 0:1 defeat last night (Thurs) to Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League.  Despite being 0:2 down in the first half, FK  Austria Wien managed to salvage one point in a 2:2 draw against AZ Alkmaar with Sturm Graz losing 0:3 in Belgium against RSC Anderlecht.

Austria Wien just about managed to scrape a draw in their fourth round tie with Alkmaar. Playing on home turf the team managed two goals in the second half after goals from Rasmus Elm in the 19th minute and Pontus Wernbloom in the 44th. After half time however the goals came for Austria from Manuel Ortlechner (58) und Nacer Barazite (61) with a similar 2:2 draw two weeks ago and four out of the six matches having been played. Metalist Charkiw is at the top of Group G with 10 points followed by Alkmaar on six, Austria on five and Malmö on zero. The top two from each group will move forward and the final games will be played on 30 November and 15 December.
