Serbia repeat 2001 victory

Serbia have won the EuroVolley 2011.

The volleyball national team are European champions for a second time after their triumph in 2001. Serbia beat Italy 3-1 in yesterday’s (Sun) final of the tournament in Vienna’s Stadthalle.

Igor Kolakovic the manager of the Serbian national team, said: “No one believed in us, not even our own fans. (…) But we fought courageously.”

Poland came third ahead of Russia in the tournament which was co-hosted by Austria and the Czech Republic. Austria finished the event in 16th and last place.
