Austrian Designers to watch for Spring/Summer 2014
Austrians designers have been flourishing within the last couple of years. Some of the young and aspiring designers who are still up and coming have released their Spring/Summer collections for 2014 and they shouldn’t be missed.
Young duo Mark and Julia are two very creative designers from upper Austria who teamed up together while attending Fashion School in Linz, launching their first collection in 2010. Their new and contemporary style was refreshing and just what the fashion media has been waiting for.
Mark and Julia presented their Spring/Summer 2014 collection at last year’s Vienna Fashion Week. The runway was over flown with soft beiges and whites, giving off a scent of spring breeze with the flow of the fabric, something very different from the designers’ usual dark-grey and edgy look. The asymmetrical shapes of the dresses along with the geometrical cut outs wrapped in stylish body chain accessories were a stunning combination of contradicting styles that speaks for itself. The body chains and cut out shapes are ahead of their time in style. Their talents and creations show potential for becoming Austrians next big couture Designers.
Of course we can’t talk about Austrian Fashion without mentioning Lena Hoscheks stunning runway show at this years Berlin Fashion Week. The Styrian designer opened the festival with her show at the Berlin Fashion Week and introduced a new, more grown-up style to her usual wild and colourful prints.
The show was full of Minimalistic silver threaded flower prints shimmering on sleeveless dresses, along with skintight silhouette dresses, and numerous delicate lace dresses to wonderful sheer polka dotted dresses. Although Hoschek introduced simplicity she kept the tailoring to her classic look of the 40s and 50s but surprised everyone with the mature tone of colours for this collection, which will be nice to gaze upon in the already colourful earth tones of Spring time surroundings.
