Driver drops dead after car chase

An autopsy has been ordered to try and work out why a 44-year-old man dropped dead after he was given an injection to calm him down after being arrested by police following a high-speed car chase that went from Austria through into Slovenia.

The 44-year-old Viennese man sped off from police after a routine spot check in Graz and travelled through to Marburg in Slovenia ramming police cars, going through red lights and hitting other vehicles before he was finally stopped.

Because he was extremely aggressive even when arrested he was taken by Slovenian police to a hospital where he was given an injection to calm him down – but a few minutes later he dropped dead.

Austrian police are now carrying out an enquiry to find out why they were unable to stop the man as he fled across the country and into Slovenia and Slovenian police have also ordered a special commission to work out why the man died after the injection and whether he had been taking alcohol or drugs.
