Summer ski fan killed after 500 meter plunge

The decision to go skiing on one of the high alpine snowfields ended fatally for a 37-year-old from Wals bei Salzburg after he plunged off the side of a cliff and fell 500 m to his death.

The man had decided to go skiing on the side of the Hohen Göll mountain in Tennengau when the accident happened. He was with a friend who could only watch as his skiing companion fell to his doom.

The surviving men, aged 46, from Salzburg, called emergency services who could only recover the body from the bottom of the sheer drop.
