Ring backs East Africa drought aid

A tradition-rich bakery has decided to support an Austrian relief organisation’s operation in East Africa.

Millions of residents of Somalia and other countries of the impoverished area need water, food and logistical support as the region experiences one of the worst droughts in history.

Now bakery chain Ring announced it will transfer one Euro to CARE Austria for every kilogram of bread sold at its over 70 branches in Upper Austria and Salzburg.

Company boss Bernhard Kreutzer told the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper today (Weds) he felt the urge to act after seeing reports and pictures about the situation in East Africa.

The Austrian government coalition of the Social Democrats (SPÖ) and the People’s Party (ÖVP) said earlier this month it supported the international mission in the affected region with 1.5 million Euros.
