Young speeder jumps into lake

A minor road-rager tried to flee from police by leaping into an ice-cold pond.Traffic police took up the chase of the 14-year-old moped rider after other motorists complained about his speeding and erratic driving style in Bad Goisern, Upper Austria, on Wednesday. The teen – whose souped-up moped was not licensed – eventually jumped into the chilly Hallstätter See (Lake Hallstatt) before giving up.The offender – who faces charges for breaching traffic laws and disobeying police orders – suffered hypothermia. He was hospitalised. Police said today (Fri) the water currently has a temperature of just six degrees centigrade.A similar chase occurred in Vienna last month.Police in the capital put a 16-year-old in custody after the teen jumped into a pond in a recreation area in Favoriten district after officers observed his attempt to steal a parked moped.
