Builders find WWI grenades
Two hand grenades have been discovered during construction works in Vienna.Shocked workers called the police when they found the missiles at a building site in Vienna-Margareten yesterday (Weds).Police officers consulted explosives experts of the interior ministry for assistance. The specialists defused the World War One (WWI) grenades. No one was injured.Around 28 tons of unexploded aerial bombs and hand grenades from WWI and World War Two (WWII) were discovered and defused across the country in 2009.Only last Tuesday, the main train station of Graz in Styria was evacuated for hours to remove a 250-kilo bomb dropped by the US Army in 1944 or 1945. Construction workers assigned to renovate and expand the station informed officials after finding the object.
