Vienna man accused of iron rod torture
A young resident of Vienna is suspected of having abused his girlfriend and their baby with an iron rod for weeks.The 18-year-old man was put in custody after the woman, 18, told police officers how her boyfriend had beaten her and their 18-month-old daughter for around two months. Police said today (Weds) that the young womans parents informed them about the occurrences as the woman has become too intimidated to seek help. She eventually dared to tell her mother and father what has been going on.The suspect claims he never used the iron rod which police officers who discovered severe bruises on the bodies of the baby and her mother confiscated. “He told us he occasionally beat his daughter with his bare hand. Investigations are ongoing,” a spokesman for the police in the city announced.The case comes only weeks after a 25-year-old Serb was arrested amid suspicions that he beat his three-year-old son Cain to death in Bregenz, Vorarlberg. Miroslav Maletic was caught in Switzerland after having been on the run for three days.
