Night-time shooter ‘forgot’ about flats
An elderly Upper Austrian man who shot at a house in New Year’s Eve claimed he “forgot” that the building was located in the direction he fired at.Police in Wels have been investigating after a bullet went through the window of a familys flat in Wels shortly before midnight on New Years Eve. The horrified residents were unharmed in the incident as they were partying in another room.Now investigators tracked down a 64-year-old man. The suspect admitted having fired shots with his gun around 1,300 metres from where the family’s apartment block is located.”He told us he simply forgot about the housing estate before firing several shots into that direction,” one police officer said today (Tues).The offenders weapon was confiscated. He has not been put in custody but faces negligent bodily harm charges and prosecutors have started dealing with the case.Seven teenagers aged between 15 and 19 are meanwhile suspected of having blown up a forest lookout in woodlands near Krems in Lower Austria on the same night.
