Organised crime chiefs bag €85bn a year, says UN

Organised crime operators worldwide rake in more than 85 billion Euros every year according to a United Nations (UN) report.Yury Fedotov, executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) announced at a conference in Vienna today (Mon) that the vast majority of the money is made on the heroin and cocaine trade.Fedotov explained cocaine dealers smuggling the drug from South America to North America and Europe make around 51 billion Euros a year. He added that heroin traders rake in around 23 billion Euros.The UNODC chief also said human traffickers helping people illegally travel from South America to North America make around 4.7 billion Euros every year.Fedotov further explained people selling fake medication earned more than 1.1 billion annually.
