Black people living in Austria are still confronted with racism and stereotyping, a new study has revealed.Clara Akinyosoye, chief author of the independent 62-page report, said blacks were often insulted in public and sometimes treated unfairly by police. She added stereotypes like “Blacks are born with a perfect feeling for rhythm” dominate the daily life of the 21,000-odd African citizens living in Austria.”We donÂ’t want to present coloured people as victims, but draw a realistic picture of the current situation,” she explained today (Fri).Akinyosoye pointed out that Africans had a strong impact on the Austrian economy. “Around 600 firms are run by coloured people only in Vienna,” she said, adding that several African countriesÂ’ economies were closely cooperating with Austrian companies.
