Strabag seals Polish bridge deal

A consortium of three Strabag SE subsidiaries has been contracted to build a bridge in a city in northern Poland, it was announced today (Mon).Strabag said the consortium – which features Strabag Sp.z o.o. Poland, Strabag AG Austria and Hermann Kirchner Polska Sp. z o.o. will build a bridge in Torun worth 139 million Euros.The project also includes the construction of access roads, pavements and a cycling path.Strabag is Austria’s biggest building company. It has also been involved in the construction of the St. Gotthard Tunnel, set to be the world’s longest, since 2002. The Vienna-based firm earned around 822 million Euros for its participation in the spectacular project beneath the Swiss Alps.Construction of the 57-kilometre railway tunnel will be finished in 2017.Strabag has around 73,500 employees. Its 2009 turnover was 13 billion Euros.The firm’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) rose by 14 per cent to 186.2 million Euros year on year in the first six months of 2010.
