No snow for the Slalom World Cup

The Slalom World Cup, scheduled for next week in Finland, has been cancelled.  Lack of snow and unusually warm weather has left the International Ski Federation (IFS) with no choice but to cancel the races due to take place at the ski resort of Levi.

Director of the Austrian Men’s ski team, Mathias Berthold, said; "It is of course a huge shame. After last year’s result we had a score to settle at Levi. The slalom team has performed very well in training recently and was looking forward to the first race. Now we must wait until Sunday when there should be the next decision as to where a replacement race can take place."

According to the IFS there was no snow cover in Finland at the end of October and even their snowmakers could not help the situation. The men and women’s races were due to take place on 12 and 13 November.
