HSV star Rost linked with ‘Bulls’
German goalkeeper Frank Rost has been linked with a move to Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg.The Hamburger SV (HSV) star was spotted meeting Red Bull football department head Dietmar Beiersdorfer in Halle, Germany, on the weekend.Rost, 36, joined HSV from Schalke in January 2007 when Beiersdorfer acted as HSVs executive manager. Huub Stevens became HSV coach one month later. Now Beiersdorfer and Stevens celebrate successes at Red Bull.Rost could become the Austrian Bundesliga leaders first choice keeper for at least half a year next season as Eddie Gustafsson is currently recovering from a broken shin bone and calf bone. The Swedish Red Bull captain will be ruled out for at least six months.Bayern Munichs second choice keeper Michael Rensing has previously been rumoured to be on Red Bull Salzburgs shopping list.Beiersdorfer and Rost refused to comment on newspaper reports from today (Mon) claiming that talks about a transfer are ongoing. Rost only recently extended his contract at HSV until 2011, but also resigned from being a member of the team council after an argument about going to the cinema with teammates the night before a match.Red Bull striker Alexander Zickler is meanwhile on his way out.The 36-year-old who won the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2001 is in the focus of seventh-placed LASK Linz.”We are very interested in a transfer,” LASK president Peter-Michael Reichel said yesterday.Roman Wallner is also expected to leave the champions. The national team striker only scored four goals after having joined the “Bulls” from LASK during the past winter transfer window. The former Rapid Vienna star netted 14 times in the first half of the season for LASK.Rapid Vienna meanwhile announced today defender Hannes Eder would stay at the club until 2012. The defenders contract would have expired this summer. Eder was expected to leave Rapid after the vice champions signed centre-back Mario Sonnleitner from Sturm Graz.Eder performed in 63 league matches for the team of Peter Pacult since 2006. He reportedly rejected offers by Swiss top-flight clubs.Rapid only have a minimal chance to win a 33rd league title as Red Bull Salzburg are six points clear with three rounds to go. Red Bull set up a club record last weekend as the 4-2 win over Magna Wiener Neustadt means they are unbeaten 22 matches in a row. The “Bulls” stayed unbeaten at home throughout the whole season.Rapid clash with city rivals Austria Vienna tomorrow, while Red Bull play against struggling Kapfenberg tonight. If Red Bull beat the side of Werner Gregoritsch and Rapid lose the Vienna derby, they have won their third league title with one more round to play.But Red Bull coach Stevens warned today: “I dont look what the others do, I focus on our performance. We need to be highly focused.
